Week 7 Top Performers
A look back at top performances from Week 7 of the high school football season from the Green Bay area.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: Denmark
The Vikings used a balanced attack to upend Luxemburg-Casco 42-28. Reece Piontek threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns, while Gabe Wertel rushed for 182 yards and three touchdowns to power Denmark to its first win over L-C since 2013.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Cody Cavil and Sam Mommaerts, West De Pere: Cavil recorded eight tackles, a sack, 2½ tackles for loss and returned a fumble for a touchdown in the Phantoms’ shutout of Seymour, while Mommaerts averaged 14.9 yards per carry in rushing for a season-high 179 yards and four touchdowns.
Damion Henrichs, G.B. West: The senior led the Green Bay area with 125 receiving yards this week, making six catches, including a touchdown for the Wildcats.
Max Meeuwsen, Bay Port: The Naval Academy recruit made six tackles, including three sacks in a win over Ashwaubenon, which was the Pirates’ fifth shutout of the season. Meeuwsen has 17 tackles for loss and 7½ sacks this season.
Connor Shefchik, G.B. Preble: The junior forced three turnovers in a 28-14 win against Notre Dame Academy. Shefchik recovered a fumble and recorded two interceptions, including one he returned 70 yards for a touchdown. He also rushed for 42 yards in the win.
Jeremy Van Zeeland, Wrightstown: The senior led the Green Bay area with 222 rushing yards on 17 carries, including three touchdowns in the Tigers’ victory over Marinette.
OFFENSIVE LINE OF THE WEEK: Algoma
The Wolves averaged 8.6 yards per carry in rushing for 421 yards and four touchdowns in a 46-22 homecoming victory over Gibraltar.
DEFENSE OF THE WEEK: Pulaski
The Red Raiders posted their fifth shutout of the season in a victory over Green Bay Southwest. Kyle Ruechel led the team with nine tackles, while Jadin Lemke and Ben Laskowski made interceptions to help Pulaski improve to 7-0.
