Week 1 Top Performers

A look back at top performances from Week 1 of the high school football season from the Green Bay area.

Watch AP on WFRV Channel 5’s High School Sports Xtra.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Seymour

Seymour football coach Matt Molle felt his team lacks size across the board this year.

However, his players certainly showed they have big hearts.

Seymour beat Green Bay East, 48-6, in a Bay Conference game Friday by totaling 270 rushing yards.

More importantly, the Thunder wore yellow socks in support of a classmate, Jordan Schadrie, who is battling cancer. You can make a donation towards Schadrie’s treatments on a GoFundMe page.

“Aaron Geurts organized it,” Seymour football coach Matt Molle said of his team wearing yellow Friday. “He’s one of our senior leaders. Aaron said at one of our contact days, ‘I know we’re on the road for our first game, but can we wear yellow socks for her?’ She had a benefit going on, so we were going to support her and her family. That’s the kind of kids we have.”

The Jaguars defeated the host Trojans 20-7 on Aug. 22 in a FRCC game at Dahlin Family Stadium.

Jerod Jandt, Peshtigo: After missing most of last year with a torn ACL, the senior rushed for 176 yards on 36 carries to lead the area and rushed for two touchdowns in a loss to Two Rivers.

Jayden Montgomery, Bay Port: After starting on defense as a freshman last year, the sophomore rushed for 81 yards on 11 carries and scored the Pirates’ first touchdown in a 42-0 shutout over Manitowoc to help fill the void with senior Isaiah Gash out due to injury.

Luke Schroeder, Ashwaubenon:  The junior receiver caught four passes for 80 yards, including a 58-yard touchdown to put the game away in a 20-7 victory at Green Bay Southwest.

Carter Zimmerman, Algoma: The sophomore recorded nine tackles and a sack to lead the Wolves’ 32-0 shutout of the N.E.W. Lutheran co-op. Zimmerman also passed for a touchdown and rushed for another score.
