Standings in the Stands: Week 1

We saw some strong performances right out of the gate.

The Pineapple People from Ashwaubenon looked to be in midseason form. But was it enough to be No. 1 in Week 1?

We also noticed one school attempting to dip its toe into the waters here. We welcome this group and hope it can learn the ropes.

Meanwhile, what happened to the ‘Burg? The 2018 co-champion was noticeably absent from our social media feeds in the opening week.

If you want to see your school make the cut next week, send AP photos and/or videos on Twitter (@AndrewPekarek),  Snapchat (AndrewPekarek), Facebook (PrepsAgenda) or Instagram (@preps_agenda) of your crew showing its fandom at a game this week.

The “Standings in the Stands” undisputed champion is a participation trophy, so your participation is needed to win.

As always, student sections, bands, teachers, principals and parents are encouraged to apply.

5. Kewaunee

This platform is about fans, but we felt the need acknowledge that we’re fans of the food spread here. If we graded food at games, K-Town would be No. 1. Lakeshore Legend Sheree Malvitz went all out last Friday with burgers, brats, chicken patties, subs, pizza, chili, fruit platters, vegetable platters, cheese curds and more.

4. Bay Port

Rrrrrrrrrrrr. We finally received contact from the Plank of a Pirate ship last week. Will this group be intrigued enough to reach out again? Will they follow directions to try to earn bonus points in future weeks? Stay tuned.

3. G.B. Southwest

Following what some would consider a bit of a down year, S³ (a.ka. Southwest Student Section) came out of the gate strong with some awesome signs. It also earned the three bonus points for getting its “Preps Agenda,” “Pekarek’s Pals” and “AP” signs on WFRV Channel 5’s High School Sports Xtra.

2. Ashwaubenon

If you want to know how this is done, take notes from the 2018 co-champs. The Pineapple People came strong like they always do. Great signs. Push-up boards. And of course, pineapples. It even broke out an “AP” chant even though it hasn’t even been listed yet for bonus points. We look forward to seeing what other creative ideas this bunch will think up next to continue to set the bar high for the rest to follow.

1. Pulaski

After coming up just short the last two years, the Red Sea is hungry to win a championship. If it keeps penning creative signs like the one they had last Thursday, it might just have a title to Polka dance for. Kudos to the Red Sea for its unique Pekarek’s Pals sign, which was actually based on the logo from the TV show “Friends.” Season 20. Episode 20. The One Where They Win It All! Good stuff.

* Receive 1 bonus point for making the most creative “AP,” “Preps Agenda” or “Pekarek’s Pals” sign.

*Receive 2 bonus points for best incorporation of a faculty member in a photo or video.
