First-Round Playoffs Top Performers

A look back at top performances in the first round of the WIAA football playoffs from the Green Bay area.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Coleman

The Cougars, a No. 6 seed, won 40-0 at Bonduel, a No. 3 seed, in a WIAA Division 6 first-round playoff game. It was Coleman’s fourth straight shutout and avenged a 13-8 loss to Bonduel in Week 1.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Ryan Carmichael, Kewaunee: The senior helped the Storm rally for a 36-35 victory over Omro in a D5 game, scoring the go-ahead points on a 2-point conversion with 28 seconds remaining. Carmichael rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns in addition to passing for 286 yards and two touchdowns.

Connor Duffy, Gibraltar: The senior recorded 19 tackles, two sacks and an interception in a 30-28 win at Suring in an 8-player playoff game. Duffy came up with a sack to stall Suring’s last drive of the game.

Quincy Klister, Wrightstown: The junior rushed for 111 yards and made a team-high 14 tackles in the Tigers 20-7 victory over Little Chute in a D4 game.

JoJo O’Leary, Pulaski: O’Leary averaged 13.6 yards per carry in rushing for 136 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Red Raiders to a 35-34 victory in a D2 game over Chippewa Falls.

David Vanderlogt, West De Pere: The junior rushed for an area-high 225 yards and two touchdowns to power the Phantoms to a D3 win over Shawano.

OFFENSIVE LINE OF THE WEEK: Bay Port

The Pirates averaged 17.4 yards per carry in rushing for 296 yards and four touchdowns in a 55-8 victory over Milwaukee Bradley Tech. Senior Daniel Forystek received a preferred walk-on offer from the University of Iowa this week.

DEFENSE OF THE WEEK: Green Bay Preble

The Hornets upset Milwaukee Riverside with a 7-6 victory, scoring their lone touchdown on a 20-yard interception return by Ian Henjum. Mitchell Schill, Connor Schefchik and Hunter Yang also came up with interception for the Hornets, who held Milwaukee Riverside to a season-low point total after it had scored 35 points or more in six games this season.
