Standings in the Stands: Week 5

We saw some championship efforts last week.

Standings in the Stands in Week 5 was highlighted by some amazing signs, a huge upset and a whole lot of push-ups from one superintendent as the pursuit of a title picks up the pace.

If your school hasn’t participated in Standings in the Stands yet, there is still time to get back into the game and chase that No. 1 spot.

Follow the directions at the bottom to read how your school can earn bonus points to play catch up.

If you want to see your school make the cut next week, send AP photos and/or videos on Twitter (@AndrewPekarek), Snapchat (AndrewPekarek) or Facebook (PrepsAgenda) of your crew showing its fandom at a game this week.

As always, student sections, bands, teachers, principals and parents are encouraged to apply.

5. G.B. Southwest

Michael Vivian, the MVP of this group, continues to do his thing in leading S³ this year. He’s not interested in the fame. He’s just doing this as a fan, and we appreciate his efforts very much. (Check out the bonus points at the bottom. Big time opportunity for the Trojans to gain some ground this week.)

4. Bay Port

We received some heat last week for saying that Nick Olson and Chad Michaels of WDOR were the best play-by-play radio team in the state for high school sports. We’ll stand by our word with that. We’ll also say that Christopher Liermann and Mike Frieder are the best web-streaming team out there. The Voice of BP has the call for every Bay Port football game and several other sports at the school during the year. We appreciate them having us on at halftime last week as the Voice of BP celebrates its fifth year of broadcasting.

3. Luxemburg-Casco

The ‘Burg pulled off a huge upset last week in topping Pulaski for best polka dancing to earn 10 bonus points (Watch all the polka dancing entrants below and judge for yourself). The ‘Burg had a small squadron make its way up to Marinette last week, but it came up with a big-time effort. The ‘Burg’s consistent effort has it one point out of first place in the season standings. Miceli Mania is running wild, but it will probably take a return of Sparty to put it over the top.

2. Pulaski

We were simply amazed by the Red Sea last week. Although the polka dancing itself lost out to the ‘Burg, the announcement between the first and second quarter to encourage polka dancing showed how much this group wants to win the title this year. The seven-foot tall “AP” sign was epic. However, that wasn’t the “AP” sign the Red Sea is earning 10 bonus points for. That’s a credit to the one Adam Wesoloski designed for us, which is pretty awesome.

1. Ashwaubenon

The Pineapple People went out of its comfort zone and put together a solid showing in attempting to polka (The commentary between Chayse Earney and Addison Stromberg says it all). The Pineapple People also went above and beyond in spelling out our entire name in front of its student section. Although it didn’t receive the 10 bonus points for either attempt, the performance helped it earn the top spot for a fourth time this year. What put it over the top was superintendent Kurt Weyers doing a super job on the push-up board.
