Standings in the Stands: Week 1

I’d like to preface this article by letting you know I hate rankings.

Always have. Always will.

I don’t put a lot of stock into them because they are nearly opinions and not something teams put in trophy cases.

Actual results on the field are what always mattered most to me.

With that being said, I figured I need to have some type of rankings for PrepsAgenda.com because, well, people like reading rankings and debating over why they are wrong.

Ashwaubenon legend Ben Wittig

My compromise for you is what I’m going to call “Standings in the Stands.”

It will be my way of ranking fans from the Green Bay area on a weekly basis. It will culminate with crowning a grand champion at the end of the football season.

Unofficially, our data shows that Ben Wittig took home this title last year. The Ashwaubenon legend garnered the honor after showing up to lead the Jaguars’ student section a few hours after he had his wisdom teeth removed last year.

That’s dedication folks.

This award will be a participation trophy, which means your participation is needed to win. Tag or send me a photo when you’re at game on social media. My handle on Twitter and Snapchat is AndrewPekarek or tag Preps Agenda in a photo on Facebook.

This award is open to all fans, including student sections, bands, parents, teachers, alumni and kids.

For example, last year’s runner-up for this award would have been the toddler rocking it on the drums with the band at a Luxemburg-Casco football game.

I now give you “Standings in the Stands” from Week 1

  1. Green Bay Southwest student section

I really appreciated the enthusiasm they maintained in watching their team rally for an overtime victory. However, flannel tends to really soak up water and wasn’t a strong clothing choice by this group in the drizzling rain.

  1. Luxemburg-Casco student section

The L-C student section is always strong and last Friday was no different. However, I felt this group was bias in favoring the banana as the only fruit represented in the crowd.

  1. Denmark student section

I’m sure to take a lot of heat from the ‘burg for this, but kudos to the contingent the Vikings had at the game Friday. The bright colors were flashy, but not so much that they were showing off. They also showed great enthusiasm late into the game when their team was down.

  1. The Pulaski Red Sea

The Red Sea correctly followed instructions last week in sending me this photo on Snapchat. Replacing legend Jacob DeStarkey will no doubt be tough, but this group looks to be up to the task.

  1. Don Rabas

People from the lakeshore and people in Green Bay will differ over how it’s pronounced, but there is no doubt that Rabas is a household name when it comes to high school football in this area.

The WFCA Hall of Famer was in the stands Friday at Luxemburg, where his son, Greg, is L-C’s line coach. The former Kewaunee coach was also there to support one of his peers in former L-C coach John Werner, who was being honored at the game.

Rabas kept the longtime Packerland Conference rivalry going Friday by toughing it out and wearing a Kewaunee hat in a sea of Luxemburg-Casco fans.

It will always be Rub-as, despite what Coach Greg Ra-bus wants to say!
